| Dogwood Festival Every March, this joyous celebration of the ivory blossom draws thousands of visitors and residents alike. | Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation The reservation is the home of Alabama and Coushatta Indians (part of Southern forest tribes) in a dense, wooded area known as the Big Thicket. Sam Houston, a staunch friend of Indians, was influential in having the reservation created in the 1850's. An excellent visitor program today features the Living Indian Village where tribal members employ traditional skills to make jewelry, basketry and leather items. Big Thicket tours via swamp buggy and a miniature railroad are available, along with a museum and craft shop. |
| Heritage Village Museum One mile west of Woodville on U.S. 190, lies Heritage Village. The museum offers a unique collection of historic buildings and artifacts depicting life in Tyler County from the 1860's to the 1900's. Recently purchased by the Tyler County Heritage Society, which is in the process of restoration and renovation, the village features the 1866 Tolar Cabin, awarded the official Texas Historical Medallion; a reconstruction of the Z. C. Collier store, once the hub of the thriving community of Town Bluff; and the first county seat, and the Pickett House, which serves family-style meals in an old School House. An adjoining 11 acres of woodlands, donated to the Heritage Society, is being developed for nature walks. |
| Big Thicket National Preserve Approximately 85,000 acres will be under control of the national park service as a biological preserve. The park will consist of 12 units, each an ecological pocket with its own unique collection of compatible birds, animals and rare plant life. Four units are in Tyler County with about 13,300 acres. Woodville, the "Northern Gateway to the Big Thicket," has excellent accommodations and is a good location from which to visit the northern units. |

Woodville Independent School District is the largest of five county school districts, and the District has achieved state and national recognition for its academic programs. With almost 1,800 students, the District offers comprehensive academic and extracurricular programs for its students. With strong traditions of spirit and community involvement, the District lives up to its motto, "Traditions of Excellence." The District will conduct a school district tour for any interested citizen.

St. Elizabeth's is a short-term, acute care hospital. The facility is currently licensed for 497 beds by the Texas Department of Health. The emergency room is operating on a 24-hour basis and exceeds the requirements of the Texas Department of Health Bureau of Licensing and Certification. |
