Sweetness & Thanksgiving Day Recipes (2024)

Nov182010

The sweetest thing happened to me yesterday.

I was strolling down the aisle at Walmart . . .when the cutest girl ever, with her darling little daughter stopped me.

She said . . . “Are you the Lady from Get Off Your Butt and BAKE?”

I laughed and smiled.

“Yes” . . . I said.

“You’re like a celebrity.” . . . she said.

“You’re so funny.” . . . Isaid.

(Thinking to myself . . . I’m so small peas in the blog world)

Then . . . my face turned nineteen shades of red!

It just so happened to be one of those days when you hesitate going anywhere. I woke up with big bags under my eyes . . . the kind where you could almost float a boat. My hair fought me for two hours, and I felt & lookedas if a mack truck had run over me!I’m quite sure she probably walked away . . . quite disappointed.

In all my embarrassment, I failed to ask her name.

So . . . to the beautiful girl who stopped me in Walmart . . .

THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY DAY!

They freeze very well, so it’s quite o.k. if you make them now.

I asked my hubbie . . . “If you could only have one thing for Thanksgiving Dinner, what would it be?”

He said . . . “Your Crescent Rolls.”

I can hardly wait to see the look on his face, when that’s the only thing on his plate! . . . hee hee.

After you’re tired of making regular rolls, make some Cinnamon Crescent rolls.

Spread a good dose of melted butter over your circle of dough.

Sprinkle a lot of Brown Sugar over that butter, and sprinkle with Cinnamon.

I cut the dough with a pizza cutter . . . so simple.

OUR FAVORITE ROLL RECIPE

*You will want to double this recipe…..for sure!

INGREDIENTS:

2 packages (1/4 ounce each) Active Dry Yeast

1 cup warm water

1 cup boiling water

1 cup shortening or butter

3/4 cup sugar

1-1/2 teaspoons salt

2 eggs, beaten

7-1/2 to 8 cups all purpose flour

DIRECTIONS:

In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, combine boiling water, shortening, sugar and salt. Allow to stand 3-4 minutes or until shortening is melted and sugar is dissolved. Add the yeast mixture and eggs; mix well.

Add 2 cups of four; beat until smooth. Add enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and refrigerate overnight. When ready to use, roll out and shape dough. Place rolls in pans, or greased cookie sheets. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown. YIELD: 2 -1/2 dozen.

*

When I make these rolls, I often do it in one day. I skip the refrigerating overnight. Simply add enough extra flour, to make a SOFT…..non-sticky dough. They still are fabulous. Make sure you let the dough raise until generously double. Then place shaped rolls (I make crescent style)….on your greased cookie sheets. Let raise again until double, before baking.
