DIY Scrabble Tile Coasters (2024)

Last week, I showed off some Scrabble Pendants decorated with Washi Tape. I continued the Scrabble tile crafting this weekend by making some coasters.

These scrabble tile coasters are a fun and relatively easy project; I enjoyed thinking of 4-letter words to describe various drinks. They have already made a home on my livingroom side table.

Other than some scrabble tiles, the only necessary materials are cork and E6000 glue. My cork still had a bit of roll to it so I used my glassybaby as weights in the corners.

The E6000 glue is pretty much the best stuff ever. It works well because it dries fast and is super strong. Plus it will attach to almost anything. #winning

I put a small dab of glue on each tile and then placed it on the cork.I used the bottom edge as a guide to make sure my coasters stayed in line.

Once the glue has dried, use an X-ACTO knife to cut the cork. Make sure to use multiple light cuts as opposed to a single hard-pressure cut because it will rip the cork rather than cut it.

An optional step is to coat the top with mod podge. This will help seal the top of the tiles but isn’t necessary. Our coasters have had many drinks set on top and haven’t had an issue with warping or water staining.

Once the coasters are finished, make yourself a drink and put your feet up to enjoy your hard work! Mine had a bit of a bend at the beginning, but after a few uses they laid nice and flat.

For this set, each coaster had a different theme: tea/coffee, wine, co*cktail, and beer. It was fun to group the words together into a sub-theme

What other 4-letter drink words can you think of? If you need some ideas, check out my post with lots of 4-letter words for your own coasters. Also make sure to check out this post on making Christmas Scrabble Tile Coasters.

hi there I’ve made some of these already but not sure what to use for a sealer, some say mod podge, some say pva glue or clear varnish but you say this is optional? im worried the coaster wouldn’t be durable without them being sealed – how are yours doing after all this time?

    • Stacey Horvath says

I used modge podge clear acrylic sealer spray in matte finish. And I sprayed and let dry 3x. The ones that got used all the time got worn out sadly. I should have used a sealer or setting that could’ve put a thick layer in between letters and has
fever was being set on it.
